Purpose:
|
a survey was taken from optometrists and ophthalmologists to evaluate their awareness about the contact lens fitting criteria in keratoconus patients.
|
Methods:
|
an open questionnaire form was given to 163 optometrists and 189 ophthalmologists in simple random sampling way in national optometry meeting on August 2012 and national ophthalmology congress on December 2012 and referring directly to persons. A 16 items questionnaire with 5 rating replies was designed and questions 6 to 16 were designed to assess the fitting indices of contact lenses in keratoconus patients.

Results:
|
Of total 352 persons who answered the questionnaire 163(46.3%) were optometrists and 189(53.7%) were ophthalmologists. Two groups in terms of age and clinical experience had significant differences (p <0.05). Answers to 6 questions of 11 relating to the administration of the contact lens do not show the same results in ophthalmologists and optometrist.

Conclusion:

: It is essential to instigate high-quality training programs to keep practitioners up-to-date to increased their awareness and performance in contact lens fitting and increase educational and professional communication between ophthalmologists and optometrists. Thereby optimizing patient care and justify in the time and expense of large-scale clinical trials.
