Purpose:
|
Depression is common in both people with visual impairment and hearing loss and has a number of debilitating effects on well-being and functioning. However, it is often not identified. The objective of this study was to Comparison Beck depression scale between low vision and hearing loss patients.

Methods:
|
It was a descriptive -analytic study with convenient sampling (n=42) of patients with low vision problem that attended the low vision clinic(n=30) and patients with hearing loss that attended the audiology clinic (n=12).We evaluated them by Beck Depression Rating Scale. Analysis was performed with statistical package spss 19 software.

Results:

In this study ,mean age in hearing loss was (37.1 ± 16.4) and in low vision was( 45±24.6).
For the statistical evaluation , T test was performed to compare mild depression in two groups, and u mann-whithney test for severe depression. According to severity depression, no significant difference were seen in two groups,(P=0.381 mild) (p= 0.376 severe).

Conclusion:

We found higher rate of depression in visually impaired and hearing impaired patients ,but there was no significant difference between the two groups.
