Purpose:
To compare the total energy needs to produce Peripheral Iridotomy in eratoconus versus non-keratoconic healthy eyes.
Methods:
In this study the patients who were candidates for phakik IOL with keratoconus (group1;40 yes;22male&18female) and without eratoconus (group2;40eyes;25male &15female) underwent Nd:YAG laser Peripheral Iridotomy to compare the amount of energy needs to produce a 200μ hole in iris.
Results:
Mean age in KCN group and healthy non-keratoconic eyes was 30years and 33 years, respectively.Mean total nergy which was needed to produce one peripheral iridotomy in keratoconus versus non-keratoconic healthy eyes was 4.2mj and 11.45mj espectively(p=0.001).
Conclusion:
The amount of total energy needs to produce Peripheral Iridotomy in
Keratoconic eyes is much less than non-keratoconic healthy eyes .
