Purpose:
to describe the results of a modified pressure patching technique in the management of early postoperative overfiltration and shallow anterior chamber.
Methods:
Twenty-four eyes of 24 subjects with shallow anterior chamber and hypotony in the early postoperative phase following trabeculectomy augmented by intraoperative mitomycin-C were included in the study. Modified pressure patching with a half-cut surgical gauze was applied to all of them. Main outcome measure was the depth of anterior chamber and intraocular pressure.
Results:
Anterior chamber deepened in all of included eyes. The intraocular pressure increased from 2.8 ± 1.2mmHg in first postoperative exam to 13.7 ± 2.1mmHg in 1st week exam after patching (p<0.0001). There was no clinically significant decrease in patients’ visual acuity.
Conclusion:
Modified pressure patching is effective in the management of early postoperative overfiltration with flat anterior chamber and hypotony. This technique in advantageous in being less disturbing to the patient’s vision and postoperative drug administration and clinical examination.
