Purpose:
To determine sensitivity and specificity of weekly weight gain and serum Insulin- like growth factor1 in prediction of ROP
Methods:
63 infants with GA≤30 weeks and BW≤1500 gr were included. Weekly weight and serum IGF1 measurement was done until 36 Weeks (GA) or occurrence of ROP, then sensitivity and specificity of this method for prediction of ROP were evaluated.
Results:
Incidence of ROP was 31.7% (20 case from 63 infant). Sensitivity for weekly weight gain to prediction of ROP at weeks 4 and 5 postnatal age was 90% and 95% respectively. Specificity for weekly weight gain to prediction of ROP at weeks 4 and 5 postnatal age was 93% and 100% respectively. Sensitivity for weekly IGF1 change to prediction of ROP at weeks 2 and 6 postnatal age was 95% and 100% respectively. Specificity for weekly IGF1 change to prediction of ROP at weeks 2 and 6 was 58% and 100% respectively.
Conclusion:
Measurement of weekly IGF1 & weight was a useful tool for prediction of ROP and decreasing number of screening examination.
