Purpose:
To assess the effect of congenital unilateral blepharoptosis on optical property of cornea and compare with normal fellow eye.
Methods:
Sixteen subjects with congenital unilateral blephreroptosis enrolled in this study. Computerized corneal topography, orb scan and aberremetry were performed in both ptotic and normal eyes. Qualitative and quantitative optical properties of cornea including pattern of topographic maps, Surface regularity index (SRI), surface asymmetry index (SAI), anterior and posterior best fit sphere difference, thinnest point of cornea and root mean square on 6 mm of central cornea were measured.
Results:
Corneal astigmatism was increased among ptotic eyelids (P<0.02). Anterior best fit sphere difference was statistically significant between ptotic and normal fellow eyes (P<0.02). High order abberations (RMS) was increased in severe ptotic eyelids but was not statistically significant. (P<0.02) .Thinnest point of cornea (P<0.37), SAI (P<0.67), SRI (P<0.55) had not significant differences between ptotic and normal fellow eyes.
Conclusion:
Congenital unilateral blepharoptosis had associated several corneal changes such as increased incidence of astigmatism ,high order aberration and elevation map changes in orbscan.
