To report a Case of self-enucleation of one eye following cannabis abuse

Case of self-enucleation of one eye following cannabis abuse

Results:

A 28 year-old single man (farmer) was admitted to eye department of shafa hospital in Kerman because of self –enucleation of his left eye with his fingers.He said after abuse of cannabis he had bad headache and he cannot remember what happened. He said he has extracted the evil eye. His family said at midnight they heard unusual sounds from their home and when woke up, they saw the man with bloody face and an intact globe in his hand.
He was admitted and started on intravenous antibiotics. He was explored in operating room under general anesthesia. The ruptured intraorbital tissues were repaired. The orbit was empty from globe. The lids were swollen, there was no lid laceration. There was no laceration in cornea and sclera of self- enucleated globe. The optic nerve was avulsed from chiasma.

Conclusion:
|
Oedipism may occur following abuse of hallucinogenics such as cannabis, LSD etc
|
