Purpose:
We investigate the stability and antibacterial potency of fortified solutions of vancomycin , amikacin, cefazolin and ceftazidim prepared in 4 diluents.
Methods:
The solutions with vancomycin 5% amikacin 2% ceftazidim 5% cefazolin 5% antibiotics reconstructed in BSS DW 5% sodium chloride were evaluated at o,4,7,14 and 28 days after preparation in terms of osmolarity PH and MIC
Results:
There was no significant differences in MIC of vancomycin within 4 weeks period but MIC was amikacin, ceftazidim was change after 7 days in 2 temperature. PH osmolarity of solutions was stable for 4 weeks in 2 temperature but cefazolin was not stable osmolarity of snow tears was higher than BSS , sodium chloride , DW 5% and higher than level of normal tear films.
Conclusion:
Vancomycin in BSS DW5% can be safely used for 4 weeks we recommended BSS sodium chloride for amikacin and should be discard after 1 week in 4c and 24c cefazolin was recommended in DW5% and sodium chloride should be discard after 1 week in 4 c and 24c DW5% sodium chloride was recommended for ceftazidim and stored in 4c
