Purpose:
|
To compare preventive effects of adhesive tape and eye ointment on dry eye and corneal abrasion. This study carried out in ICU patients.
|
Methods:
|
In this study 87 patients in ICU randomly grouped in 3 classes for receiving adhesive tape (group I ), simple eye ointment (group II ) and control group (group III). All patients examined for signs of dry eye (schirmer test) and corneal abrasion befor study and at one and five after treatment.

Results:
|
On the first day of treatment there wase no difference between three groups. But at fifth day, 14 patients (48.3%) of adhesive tapes group (group I ) had dry eye and 6 patients (20.7%) corneal abrasion or ulcer, in (group II ) 12 patients (41.4%) had dry eye and 3 patients (10.3%) had corneal abrasion or ulcer. In control group 12 patients (41.4%) had dry eye and 4 patients (13.7%) had abrasion or ulcer.

Conclusion:
|
Eye lubricant are more effective than adhesive tapes for prevention of corneal abrasion or dry eye signs in ICU patients.
