Purpose:
to describe the surgical technique and report the outcomes of cases treated with femtosecond laser superficial anterior lamellar keratoplasty
Methods:
Sutureless superficial anterior lamellar keratoplasty with femtosecond laser technology was performed for eyes with superficial corneal opacities. Best corrected visual acuity (BCVA), uncorrected visual acuity (UCVA), manifest refraction were main outcome measures.
Results:
No complications occurred during procedures. The first patient was a 23-year-old man with central vascularized scar in the right eye. This patient achieved BCVA within two lines of that recorded in the follow up visit. The second case was a man, 38-year-old, with corneal haze after Photorefractive keratectomy, with refraction -9, -3.5×161 preoperatively and UCVA of counting fingers (CF) that improved in 3 month follow up. The third patient with previous crosslinking (1.5 years before) and corneal scar had UCVA of 20/200 and refraction -0.75, -6.5×170 that achieved a gain of 20/160 and -0.5, -4.0×5 for refraction in 1 weak. All three cases had cleared corneas.
Conclusion:
Femtosecond assisted sutureless anterior lamellar keratoplasty improves visual acuity of patients with anterior corneal opacities with rapid visual rehabilitation and good cosmetic results.
