Purpose:
The post traumatic endophthalmitis is still one of the important complications after the repair of the open globe injury. In this study our goal is to investigate the rate of incidence and the risk factors that is contribute to it to make the correct decision in the managing of such clinical challanging in the high risk patients to decrease the incidence and the sequele of such devastating event.
Methods:
In this retrospective descriptive analysis the patients who were presented to feiz hospital and was treated in this center. The data was listed in a charts which identifies: age, sex, location, visual acuity, the time from trauma to hospitalization and to repair, site of injury and the presence of foreign body.
Results:
The overall of incidence of the posttraumatic endophthalmitis in our study of 1042 patients was 2.1% that was clearly less than large institutions the US eye registry reports that 3.4% was the rate of endophthalmitis.
The location & site of trauma was also statistically not difference in the3 groups, there was no difference in the location of trauma in cornea sclera& corneasclera in contribution to higher rate of endophthalmitis.
Conclusion:
In our large retrospective study the patients with low age, low visual acuity at addmition, and presence of intraocular foreign have a higher risk of endophthalmitis after the repair of the globe.
