Purpose:
Most patients cannot tolerate an acrylic or glass ocular prosthesis. Some of them exhibit an allergic reaction, include excessive discharge , swelling, redness of the conjunctiva and mild to extreme discomfort, to acrylic eyes.
Methods:
This technique provides a reliable to produce a silicone ocular prosthesis, medical grade silicones are categorized by how long they are permitted to be in the eye socket. A silicone ocular prosthesis compressive flexibility. This technique to develop a silicone ocular prosthesis would possibly be more biocompatible and comfort for patients with acrylic intolerance is required.
Results:
This technique produces life like silicone prostheses that can be constructed in a similar time as an acrylic prosthesis. For patients with intolerance to methyl methacrylate a silicone ocular prosthesis can provide an alternative that is more biocompatible, softer and comfortable.
Conclusion:
A silicon ocular prosthesis is not unlike an acrylic eye, but advancements in hydrophilic coatings are promising and look and feel almost to a natural eye.
