Purpose:
Comparison of the effect of the duration of applying on the results of haze in PRK surgery
Methods:
We evaluated 68 eyes of 34 individuals with myopia at least 4.5D. All patients received PRK.Mitomycin-C 0.02% was used for 12 seconds in one eye and 60 seconds in the other eye randomly. The grading of haze was performed using the Fantes method by one person in both groups in a blind fashion.
Results:
Correction of the spherical equivalent did not differ significantly between the two groups 1 and 3 months after the surgery (P=0.955). There was no different in the BCVA of the patients between the two groups after the surgery (P=0.712). Eighteyes in the first and 9 eyes in the second group after one month and 1 eye in each group after three months had +1 haze. Mean haze in the first (P=0.939) and the third month (P=0.905) did not differ significantly between the two groups.
Conclusion:
There was no difference in haze after PRK in patients with at least 4.5D myopia between 12 and 60 seconds of Mitomycin-C application. We suggest Mitomycin-C be used for 12 seconds after PRK.
