Purpose:
|
To report the anatomical as well as visual outcomes of double layered amniotic membrane transplantation (AMT) in patients with advanced Pseudomonas eratitis leading to
Descemetocele formation
|
Methods:
|
Double layered amniotic membrane transplantation was performed in 6 eyes of 6
female patients with pseudomonas keratitis caused by cosmetic lens infection referred to Farabi
Eye Hospital, Tehran University of Medical Sciences. They underwent surgery after not
responding to application of pseudomonas species sensitive antibiotic with a severe thinning
and corneal Descemetocele. All the patients underwent complete examination preoperatively,
and examination, corneal optical coherence tomography (OCT) and pachymetry or orbscan
after operation. The mean follow up period was
24+/_ 2 months
|
Results:
|
There was no corneal perforation and none of the patients needed emergency corneal
transplantation. All the patients had visual acuity of hand motion before operation which
improved to 20/50 to 20/30 3 months after surgery. No surgical or post operative complication
occurred in this series.
|
Conclusion:
|
Double layered amniotic membrane transplantation can result in acceptable
anatomical and visual outcomes in patients with advanced Pseudomonas Keratitis leading to
Descemetocele formation and exempts them from emergent corneal transplantation.
