Purpose:
|
To determine the prevalence of with the rule and against the rule astigmatism in patients that examined in optometry clinic of rehabilitation faculty of shahid baheshti medical university
|
Methods:
|
In this crossed – sectional study 804 files of patients that examined in optometry clinic of rehabilitation faculty of shahid baheshti medical university investigated. Astigmatism was defined as a cylinder power of ≥-0.5 D The astigmatism type was defined as with-the-rule (WTR) (+ cylinder axis 90±20 degrees) and against-the-rule (ATR) (+ cylinder axis 180±20 degrees); all other orientations were considered oblique (OBL).

Results:
|
The prevalence of WTR and ATR astigmatism in low vision patients were 31.37% and 29.41% and in other patient’s were 21% and 20.7% respectively. The most prevalence of WTR astigmatism in low vision patients was in age groups 10-20 old years (29.7%) and high prevalence of ATR astigmatism in age groups 70-80 old years (26.7%).The most prevalence of WTR astigmatism in other patients were in age groups under 10 old years (29.4%) and the most prevalence of ATR astigmatism in age groups 50-60 old years (22.23%) respectively.

Conclusion:

In present study the prevalence of ATR astigmatism in older patient’s more than in juvenile patients and conduced with previous study
