Knowing the personality type of a patient may be beneficial as it gives the therapist insight into how their patient relates to visual information. The relationship between personality and refractive error has been investigated with varying results.The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between refractive condition and personality.

In this descriptive analytic study from college of optometry, 30 patients with refractive error ( included 10 myopia,10 hyperopia and 10 astigmatisem) were evaluated by a 60- question NEO PI-R .The NEO PI-R is recognized internationally as a gold standard for personality assessment that measure of the five major domains of personality included N: Neuroticism, E:Extraversion, O: Openness to Experience, A :Agreeableness, C: Conscientiousness.

From 30 patients with mean age 36.1(SD±15.32),15 cases were male and 15 were female.Our subjects (myopia, hyperopia and astigmatisem) in all characteristics with the exception of openness are not significantly different.On the other hand, hyperopic persons were more openness than myopic and astigmatisem persons.(p<0.5)

Openness to experience was significantly different in hyperopic persons.
