Purpose:
|
To asses the effect of mitomycin C (MMC) 0.02% on posterior stromal keratocyte density after photorefractive keratectomy (PRK) in patient with low myopia
|

Methods:
|
26 eye of 13 participats with low myopia (range -2.00 to -5.00D) and low astigmatism (-0.5 to -2 D) underwent PRK with MMC 0.02% for 20 seconds referred to alzahra Hospital in zahedan in 1391 year. Confocal microscopy with confoscan 3 (Nidek, Japan) was performed preoperatively and repeated 3 mounth after surgery to determine any change in posterior stromal keratocyte density (50 posterior to desmet memberane).

Results:
|
Mean preoperative spherical equivalent refractive error was -3.6±0.8 D and mean ablation depth were 74.7?15.6?. befor surgery the mean cell density in posterior stromal keratocyte was 714.6±12.1, 3 month post surgery was 714.7±12.9 , there was no significant change in keratocyte density pre and post surgery (P=0.838)

Conclusion:

Intraoperative MMC 0.02% apploied for 20 seconds during PRK for low myopia did not significant change posterior stromal keratocyte densing after 3 mounth
