Purpose:
To evaluate the efficacy of miniscleral contact lenses in correcting post corneal graft residual astigmatism.
Methods:
Interventional case series; 48post corneal graft eyes (40 patients) with unsatisfactory vision with spectacle or RGP fitted with miniscleral lenses.
Results:
Mean UCVA was 1.04 logMar (SD: 0.55);.Mean BSCVA was 0.77 logMar (SD: 0.50) hich increased to 0.19 logMar (SD: 0.03) with MSD. All eyes had ideal (66.7%) or acceptable fit (33.3%). 16 patients (17 eyes) prepared the lenses of them 14 eyes (12 patients) continued wearing them and in their last follow up visit (mean: 12.10 months; SD: 9.93, range 1- 30 months), mean comfortable daily wearing time was 10.29 hours (SD: 4.03 h; ranging from 2 to 13).
Conclusion:
Miniscleral lenses could significantly increase BCVA in those post graft patients with unsatisfactory vision with acceptable wearing time, so despite issues such as financial problems and difficulty handling, ophthalmologists can rely on miniscleral contact lenses for correcting visually unsatisfied post graft patients.
