Purpose:
Using the SHWIND AMARIS platform to evaluate the outcomes of laser epithelial keratomileusis (LASEK) for the correction of Hyperopia with mitomycin C (MMC).
Methods:
In this retrospective study, 78 hyperopic eyes of 39 patients (males: 43.6%) underwent LASEK with an Aberration-FreeTM algorithm. Mean preoperative hyperopia was 3.35±1.59 diopters (D) (range: 0.25 to 7 D). Clinical outcomes were evaluated for refractive outcome and safety index.
Results:
At the time of surgical intervention the mean age was 35.42±1.12 years old (from 18 to 56). At one year, the mean hyperopia was 0.63±0.84 D (range: -1.75 to 2.76 D). Likewise, Preoperative and 1-year postoperative mean astigmatism were 1.67±1.63 (range: 0 to 5.50) and 0.68±0.43 (range: 0 to 2), respectively. The safety index was 1.08. Additionally, patients had not serious complication (only 9.6% report fine corneal opacity).
Conclusion:
Following hyperopic eyes for 1-year, LASEK surgery using with MMC yields in good refractive and visual outcomes.
