Purpose:
To evaluate contrast sensitivity after photorefractive keratectomy in hyperopic patients with or without astigmatism.
Methods:
Patients with hyperopia under 5D without or with astigmatism (under 3D) entered the study. Patients underwent photorefractive keratectomy. Baseline and 3-months postoperative measures were uncorrected and corrected distance visual acuities, and contrast sensitivity.
Results:
The postoperative contrast sensitivity increased significantly at most photopic (1.5,3,6,12cpd) and some mesopic (3,12 cpd) spatial frequencies among patients.
Conclusion:
Three months postoperatively, contrast sensitivity was higher at most photopic and some mesopic spatial frequencies in patients with low to moderate hyperopia undergoing photorefractive keratectomy.
