Purpose:
To investigate the feasibility of applying Shack Hartmann Wavefront Sensor (SHWFS) as the aberrometer to measure the high order aberration of the human eye and benefits of using that method as a clinical approach.
Methods:
Higher order aberrations (e.g. coma, spherical aberration) have a profound effect on retinal image quality and visual performance. The correction of higher order aberrations requires a precise knowledge of its application; therefore aberrometers which allows to measure wavefront aberrations become more essential. SHWFS is mostly used sensor in Astronomy for measuring the optical aberration of the atmosphere. In this paper we modeled a simple eye with its optical elements such as retina, cornea, lens and etc. and with high order aberration, applying SHWFS as aberrometer, all using ZEMAX software.
Results:
SHWFS on the suitable optical setup for wavefront sensing of the stimulated normal and abnormal eye was modeled. All simulation and modeling was held on ZEMAX, it was powerful software for optical simulation of eye.
Conclusion:
This modeling makes more useful information for the eye and its performance on its diseases, such as using of contact lens as a solution, and also for designing experimental setup for the real eye optometry.
