Purpose:
To evaluate the changes of the higher order aberrations (HOAs) measured by the OPD scan and the mesopic contrast following cross linking (CXL)
Methods:
In this before-after study which was performed on 40 keratoconic eyes that received CXL, mesopic contrast and corneal and total indices of the OPD scan III were evaluated.
Results:
The mean age of the participants was 24.10±0.45 years. After 6 months, the improvement of UCVA (P=0.548) and BCVA (P=0.300) and the decrease in the spherical equivalent (P=0.869) were not significant. Mesopic CS showed a decrease in spatial frequency 3 and an increase in spatial frequencies 6, 12, and 18 but none of them were significant. Total HOAs, total coma, total trefoil, and total spherical aberration under mesopic condition also decreased insignificantly. The corneal HOAs analysis showed the same results.
Conclusion:
Based on the 6-month results, CXL did not affect mesopic CS and HOAs significantly and the indices of vision acuity and quality were stable. This study continues to report long term results.
